Assessment Results
The U.S. EPA review and approval process under the Food Quality Protection Act is a stringent process, potentially adding safety factors, over and above those traditionally used for risk assessment. EBDC fungicides, assessed as a class because of their common metabolite, ETU, are in the midst of the re-registration process. EPA generally does not find heath risks for EBDCs to be above their levels of concern; the Mancozeb Task Force is anticipating that all currently labeled uses will be maintained, and is optimistic that additional minor crop uses can be added to the label.

As of November 24, 2004, EPA has posted its risk assessment for EBDC fungicides on its Web site for public comment. We encourage EBDC users to let the agency know about the importance of EBDCs to your industry. Suggested items to include in your comments are:
  1. the broad use of EBDCs for disease protection and the spectrum of control for your crop;
  2. the impacts that would result if EBDCs were not available for disease protection, including production losses, and quality impacts;
  3. the importance of EBDCs for resistance management and resistance management programs;
  4. the costs of any alternatives and the impact from the use of any alternatives.
